Dear friends,
As Earth rotates us into spring, we are invited to remember the life which comes with the season and the Life which succeeds death. The changing seasons remind humanity that impermanence is law, and that we have the choice to be a part of it or subject to it. It is an ambivalent world we find ourselves in, so we might as well rejoice as children in the certainty that life is uncertain.
Children of Gaia Nova is an organization encouraging Love of humanity and Earth. Our projects are intended to serve as passive reminders to all who engage with them to kindle their own childish curiosity and love of mother, whether birth-giver or planet. The differences between Earth and human are few. Both are composed of the same basic elements – water among the most prominent – approximations showing that both the human body and Earth are around 71% water. As humanity progresses on its path of self realization, we are becoming increasingly aware that we are Earth and Earth is us. Accordingly, there have been fantastic scientific efforts to understand, extract, purify, and interact with water to neutralize the ongoing poisoning of our planetary water systems with plastic and other waste. One of the organizations at the forefront of this work is called The Ocean Cleanup, which focuses on intercepting the Pacific Garbage Patch.
The Pacific Garbage Patch poses significant environmental threats, as plastics do not biodegrade but rather break down into smaller pieces over time, leading to ingestion by marine animals and birds, entanglement, and disruption of marine ecosystems. At the forefront of efforts to mitigate this issue is The Ocean Cleanup: a multinational foundation which develops interceptor technology to identify the ever-shifting hotspots of the trash vortex and deploys ships to cast netted borders around them for collection and recycling. To slow the growth of the trash vortex, they have also developed a river series, creating barricades preventing outflow of waste from the cities. Visualize the impact of the river series technology in Guatemala here.
While fear and distrust pervade many social circles in today’s tense socio-political-economic environment, Children of Gaia Nova is dedicated to inspiring hope and excitement for the future of Earth and humanity. May our attention to the good work being done across the world serve as a prayer for planetary wellbeing.
With Love,
David W. Black
